Professor
Selected as 2008 Daily Camera Pacesetter Award Recipient

January, 2008: Professor
Joe Ryan
was selected for a 2008 Boulder Daily Camera
Pacesetter Award in the
Science/Health/Medicine category. The award recognizes the efforts
of his research group to assist Boulder County watershed
organizations with water quality problems. He was nominated by
the Outreach Committee of the School of Continuing Education.
The award luncheon is Thursday, January 31 in the Harvest House
Hotel. He will be interviewed about the award on KGNU's
morning show on Tuesday, January 22.

M.S. Student
Awarded NWRI-AMTA Fellowship for Membrane Technology |
July, 2007: Kendra Colyar, a
M.S. candidate in our Environmental Engineering program, was awarded
a fellowship for membrane technology by the National Water Research
Institute and the American Membrane Technology Association.
The fellowship provides two years of funding at $10,000 per year for
"solving water supply and quality issues through the widespread
application of membrane technology. Kendra is working with Dr.
John Pellegrino on the optimization of water re-use in
biomass-to-fuel processing. |

Environmental
Engineering Students Construct Fog Water Collection System in Nepal |
June, 2007: Three graduate
students in our Environmental Engineering program traveled to
Namsaling, Nepal, with a team of students and faculty to build a fog
water collection system for the village. The trip was
organized by Dr. Barry Bialek, who teaches CVEN 5834 Environmental
Health in Developing Communities and co-sponsored by the University
of Colorado chapter of Engineers Without Borders. The
three students are Frances Fierst, an M.S. candidate working with
Prof. Scott Summers, David Dani, a Ph.D. candidate working with
Prof. Scott Summers, and Christie Chatterley, a M.S. candidate in
the Engineering for Developing Communities track. The Rocky
Mountain News covered the trip and archived the stories,
photographs, and video on their
web page. |

Ph.D. Student
Awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship |
May, 2007: Carrie "C.J."
McClelland, a Ph.D. candidate in our Environmental Engineering
program, was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research
Fellowship. The fellowship provides up to three years of
funding for research-focused graduate degrees in science,
engineering, and mathematics fields. C.J. is working with
Prof. JoAnn Silverstein. |
