Degrees
The Department of Civil,
Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado offers a
comprehensive graduate program in geotechnical engineering leading to the degrees of
Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. Currently, there are about 225 graduate
students in the department.
Students studying toward the M.S. degree are required to take either
- 30 semester hours including a thesis (6 hours), or
- 30 semester hours of coursework
The Ph.D. degree requires additional course work beyond the M.S. degree
and a dissertation.
Student Support
Support is available for
qualified students in the form of teaching assistantships (TAs) or research assistantship
(RAs). TAs receive a stipend of approximately $1,250 per month, a tuition
waiver, and on-half of their health insurance for the academic year.
Fully-funded RAs receive a stipend of approximately $1,250 per month, a
tuition waiver, and on-half of their health insurance. Department and
university fellowships are also available. Roughly half of the graduate
students in the program are funded. Decisions on financial support are
usually made during February preceding the fall semester, so early
application is encouraged.
