Flow and Transport Modeling in Natural and Man-made Water Systems Abstract: This talk will give an overview of recent and on-going activities in my research group. Our research studies water flow and contaminant transport in groundwater systems and water distribution systems using novel mathematical techniques including adjoint theory, wavelet analysis, and chaotic flows. Recent and on-going projects include the identification of sources of contamination in aquifers and water distribution systems, analysis of spatial variability of aquifer properties and its effect on groundwater flow, delineation of material property boundaries from a LiDAR image of a rock face, selection of pumping well locations to minimize impacts on surface water flows, and novel injection and extraction schemes to enhance mixing in aquifers.
