Sustainable Development and Utilization of Water Resources in China

Abstract
Water is the most fundamental but finite natural resource that is of vital importance to human existence. With the unfavorable natural conditions, constant population growth and rapid economic development, the lack of water resources has become one of the major problems facing China. Since the traditional methods of developing and utilizing water resources could hardly support the sustainable development of China, it is imperative for China to transform ways of developing and conserving water resources. Based on the analysis of the natural conditions, water resources features, and current status of water resources development and utilization, this presentation will discusse the problems of water resources development and utilization, and describes the national strategy for sustainable water resources development and utilization in China.
