Preparing for an uncertain future—developing robust climate adaptation plans in the water sector

Dr. Groves, a senior policy researcher at the RAND Corporation and co-director its Water and Climate Resilience 
Center, will describe methods for accounting for climate change and other deep uncertainty when developing climate 
adaptation plans in the water sector. He will present several case studies to highlight key features of the 
methodology, including how to consider large ensembles of climate projections, identify uncertainties that should be 
the focus of adaptation decision making, and support stakeholder deliberations over adaptation options using 
analytics and decision support.
